Kandahar city, 11 August: Security officials in the southern Afghanistan on Sunday informed thwarting another militant attack on central jail here and arrested 11 armed suspects in the second attack on the central jail so far this year.
General Gul Agha Naibi commander of the 205 military corps told Pajhwok Afghan News they were tipped off about a probable enemy attack on the jail two days back and consequently quick reaction forces barracks were ordered to cover the surrounding areas of the jail.
The deployed military forces arrested 11 suspects with six arms in the area, he added, the arrested were assigned to attack the jail. More enemy fighters to support the attack on the prison had fled the area, he added.
Jail officials however did not comment on the incident.
A militant attack on the jail about two months back caused huge jail break leaving scores of security forces and locals dead and hundreds of suspected criminals freed.
